SUMMARY:How to write a policy brief
DESCRIPTION:Policy briefs are concise\, accessible documents that aim to communicate the practical implications of research to a particular policy audience and provide them with solutions to a specific issue. Although policy briefs are just one method to communicate information to a policy audience\, they can be a valuable communication tool when effectively written and disseminated. \nThis webinar will outline how researchers can write an effective policy brief and disseminate it so that it has policy impact. In the second part of the webinar\, participants will be given the opportunity to ask questions and try out their own policy brief concepts. \nThe webinar will be hosted by Chloe Hill\, EGU’S policy manager. It will last for one hour and conclude with an audience Q&A. This webinar will be recorded and uploaded to the EGU YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@egu \nRegister for this online event here. \nIf you have any questions about ‘How to write a policy brief’\, please contact us via webinars@egu.eu.

SUMMARY:The interTwin Digital Twin Engine: Discover the Environment Use Cases
DESCRIPTION:interTwin is collecting a series of use cases provided by selected research communities in the field of environmental sciences/climate change. These use cases describe activities that will benefit of the use of a Digital Twin. Based on the input collected via the use cases\, interTwin will develop a multi-domain Digital Twin Engine (DTE) – a collection of software components that can be assembled into a DT. The  use-cases will then use this DTE to assemble/build a DT that is specific for their domain or use-case. \nRegister here. \nSpeakers:\n– Deltares\n– CMCC\n– eurac research

Moreover\, many geoscientific topics are of societal and public interest. This highlights the importance of generating data that is findable\, accessible\, interoperable and reusable – in short FAIR – for a large number of stakeholders within and across domains. This workshop will demonstrate the importance of creating FAIR data and highlight the importance of open science. At the same time\, this workshop will serve as a kick-off for a future online workshop series that will cover aspects of best data management practices resulting in FAIR data. \nThe learning goals of this first workshop are: \n1. To discover Open Science ideas. We delve into the world of open science\, discovering its benefits and overcoming challenges. Learn about tools and practices that facilitate transparency\, collaboration\, and community engagement. Embrace a culture of openness to advance scientific knowledge collectively. \n2. To understand the intricacies of FAIR data principles. We become aware of how to make your research data more Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, and Reusable. Understanding these principles is crucial for optimizing the impact and accessibility of your research. \n3. To get an overview of future steps in implementing FAIR data practices. This segment will highlight next steps of the workshop series\, focusing on organizing and managing data while ensuring alignment with FAIR principles. \nGeo-INQUIRE promotes equality\, diversity and inclusion under the advice of the Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion Panel at all events organized as part of Geo-INQUIRE. SUMMARY:One Hour with Europe appointment on Dual-Use White Paper with EC DG RTD Director Maria Cristina Russo
DESCRIPTION:At the end of January 2024\, the European Commission published a White Paper on options for enhancing support of Research and Development (R&D) of technologies with dual-use potential. This is a part of a larger package designed to enhance the EU’s economic security\, while upholding “the openness of trade\, investment and research” for the EU’s economy. \nThe White Paper launches a public consultation where the stakeholders are asked to share their views on how dual use research should be handled in the future FP10. \nThe three options can be summarised as: \ni) Building upon the current approach established under Horizon Europe\,\nii) Removing the exclusive focus on civil applications in selected parts of the successor program to Horizon Europe\,\niii) Creating a dedicated instrument with a specific focus on R&D with dual-use potential. \nThe public consultation allows a comprehensive dialogue with stakeholders that should reflect on aspects like: \nWhat are the challenges and opportunities related to increased focus on dual-use research and how can the related consultation impact the successor programme to Horizon Europe? \nWhat are the implications for researchers and innovators from civil or defense domains\, and how can the EU foster open and safem research cooperation among research organisations? How could this influence European competitiveness and the EU economic security? \nIn this One Hour with Europe\, we are happy to welcome Director for Global Approach and International Cooperation in R&I in DG RTD\, European Commission Maria Cristina Russo that will present the White Paper and the related public consultation and will be available to answer to the questions of the participants on this webinar. \nThe online event will find place on Thursday\, 21st of March\, at 14:00-15:00. Register before the 20th of March at 12:00 CET to receive the link to the webinar room. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Webinar: Framework Programme Working Group on STEP
DESCRIPTION:On March 14\, Science Business will host DG RTD’s Anna Panagopoulou\, Director for ERA and Innovation\, for a closed-door conversation on the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP). The discussions around STEP have left many in doubt about the perspective of this initiative and its impact on research funding\, with the proposed €10 billion in additional endowments reduced to a simple €1.5 billion addition to the European Defence Fund. This will be a unique occasion to get some insight on the work that surrounded STEP\, how the process was conducted and what the perspectives are for the year(s) to come. \nRegistrations are open here.
