The researcher will join the team of researchers of the Text2Story project and will do a PhD that will extend beyond the end of the project. The topic is Extraction of Narratives from text. The selected candidate will work with INESC TEC’s Machine Learning and NLP / NLP team and will have the opportunity to work in a dedicated and young environment, in close interaction with researchers, doctoral and post-doctoral students working on varied Machine Learning topics, information extraction and computer science. The candidate must be motivated to collaborate on other projects on time.Tasks will include: studying the architecture and functionalities of the existing Software Components of the MELOA’s Ecosystem; contributing to the development of Web and Mobile applications by extending them and their underlying Web services; participating in meetings with external stakeholders; -participating in writing the project’s report.

The candidate is required to have a MSc in Computer Science, Data Sciente or equivalent preferably focusing on NLP.

The minimum requirements for the profile are: Motivation to work with NLP algorithms & tools; determination to get a PhD degree; Theoretical background and experience on NLP and Machine Learning, particularly on Narrative Extraction; Good communication skills & ability to cooperate within a team; Knowledge of programming languages(Python/R). First degree score of 15/20 minimum. Candidates not fulfilling minimum requirements may still apply.

Preference will be given to candidates who are able to use Portuguese as a language of study, who have strong publications in NLP, and have knowledge of Python and development tools (e.g. GIT).
