Cidália Fonte

Cidália C. Fonte has a PhD in Geospatial Engineering by the University of Coimbra and is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, Portugal. She is a researcher and member of the board of Directors of INESC Coimbra since 2011, co-chair of Work Group IV/4 (Collaborative Crowdsourced Cloud Mapping) of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) since 2018, was the Portuguese representative at Commission 2 (Professional Education) of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) between 2015 and 2019 and of Commission 3 (Spatial Information Management) since 2019. She coordinated the MSc course of Geographical Engineering, currently called Geospatial Information Engineering, between 2013 and 2019.

Her main research interests are land use and land cover mapping based on satellite imagery; collection, validation and exploitation of volunteered geographic information; geospatial data quality assessment and uncertainty modelling. She is author/co-author of more than 100 research articles with peers’ review published in International Scientific Journals, International and National Conferences and book chapters, and presented more than 20 seminars by invitation She also integrated the Organizing and/or Scientific Committee of more than 40 scientific international and national conferences. Cidália Fonte participated as a researcher in several research projects and as Principal Investigator in 3 projects. She was also involved in the Management Committee of 3 Cost actions funded by The European Union and coordinated the Work Group on Map Validation of the COST Action TD 1202 – Mapping and the Citizen Sensor.
