João Vinagre is a researcher at the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) of INESC TEC and Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences in the University of Porto. He received his PhD in Computer Science in 2016 from the MAPi consortium, composed of the Universities of Aveiro, Minho and Porto. 

His research focuses on Machine Learning and Information Retrieval, with emphasis on stream-based incremental algorithms, ensemble learning and distributed learning, on applications related to user modelling, recommendation and personalisation. Currently, he is working on decentralised methods for machine learning, and issues related to privacy, interpretability and bias/fairness.

He has been involved as researcher and coordinator in several projects with competitive funding (national and european), as well as direct contracts with industry partners. He is a also a member of the coordinating team of the Data Science Hub at INESC TEC.
