Luís Miguel Pires Neves holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Energy Systems), from the University of Coimbra in 2005. He is currently a Professor at the School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic of Leiria. He is a member of the board of directors of the R&D Institute INESC Coimbra and the head of the Delegation of the INESC Coimbra at the Polytechnic of Leiria. 

His areas of interest are energy systems and policies, with particular focus on power systems planning, energy efficiency and demand-side management, as well as the application of operational research to the field. He has participated in several national and international R&D projects and in specialized consulting for companies, namely regarding the assessment of cogeneration, demand-side planning and energy audits. He is author of several papers in journals and conference proceedings.
