Manuel Lopes


Manuel Lopes is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon. He did his phd in Electrical Engineering in the field of machine learning and intelligent machines. During his career he was a researcher at VTT Finland, a lecturer at Plymouth University and a researcher at Inria France. Manuel’s research interest is in the understanding of natural and artificial intelligence, considering applications on problems of planning, decision making, computational biology, robotics, sensing technologies, human-machine collaboration and data analysis. He teaches courses on artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics. He published more than 50 papers in international journals and conferences for the domains of data science, machine learning, robotics and computational biology. He has coordinated projects at the European and national level on the fields of intelligent machines, human-machine collaboration and computational modelling.
