At the Porto Customs office, a robot developed by INESC TEC, based on a problem identified by Sonae MC, was removing boxes from a container. It’s called CARGO and it demonstrated a way to automate one of the most physically demanding tasks in logistics. It was a technology demonstration, but also a starting point for more difficult questions: how to ensure the solution works reliably in an industrial operation, how to improve it with experience, and how to make it available to other clients?
